Q5 - How did you attract/address your audience?

My Media Product was aimed at;
Teenage Girls; Aged: 13-18; Who either attend School /College and Have a part-time job/Pocket money.
I found that you must attract and address your target audience to ensure that you sell your media product.

I addressed my audience by using the stereotypical colours which are aimed at my target audience, these being; Pink and Lilac. I made these colours the reoccurring theme throughout my Magazine to ensure the it was consistent. This allowed me to follow my own institution of followed a set colour theme.

I addressed my audience by researching the various things they have interests in such as;
The various celebritys like;
Ke$ha
Justin Bieber
Selena Gomez
Justin Timeberlake
Rihanna
Miley Cyrus.
I did this research to ensure that my featured stories where not only of the pop genre but also popular within
my target audience.

I also addressed my audience by adding girl hearts as a reoccurring theme within my magazine, I think the hearts add to making the magazine seem more pop genre but they attract the female audience.

I also addressed my audience by looking at their social status, from this I found that they were in a low band in grade D & E this meant a low income, therefor to attract my audience I made my magazine cheap at the price of £1.99.

In order to find out if my magazine was attracting my target audience I asked 15 female students aged 13-18
to find out if my magazine was working.
Before doing this survey, I ensured that a my selection was a mixed selection. I decided to take 2 of each age and then 3 randomly chosen by my friend out of a hat so that it wasn't a biased questionnaire.

From this I found that majority of my people of study , from my chosen target audience where attracted to my product. I know that I cannot attract every single person in that target audience as people have different tastes and likes , however I found that my price was a good price and that my colour scheme and chosen artists were appealing to a majority of my people of study.

The reader profile that I have created is based on my mainstream audience built on the stereotypes of today's society. The social networking websites, fashion labels, technology labels and Celebrity Icons are all based on today's wants and needs of my chosen target audience. The younger generations where my target audience is based are very uptodate with the latest technology and social networking websites therefor the use of these aim at my audience.

I also received this feedback;
This feedback was given by a 17 year old female student; (My target audience) She has shown that my chosen colours attract the audience and also my hearts attract the audience, this means that from my research and questionnaire my findings where successful in attracting my target audience

Q3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Who might distribute your media product? by Ellysia Tsim on GoAnimate

  • Along with this Animation I have written an extra section as to what kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why;
  • In terms of which media institution, it must be one which consists of music so company's such as ICP Media and BBC both deal with music therefor are good candidates to distribute my product.
  • About IPC ; IPC Media produces over an astonishing 60 recognized media brands and with print alone they reach almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men. Their websites all together reach over 20 million users every month.IPC – What do they distribute? IPC distributes a wide range of magazines such as Marie Claire, TVTimes, NME, Ideal Home, Country Life, Nuts, Soaplife, Mousebreaker and Now. My magazine isn't of their usual, however my magazine could be distributed by them as it could hit a bigger audience for their institution and there wouldn't be any competition within the conglomerate.
  • BBC; The BBC Already distribute ; Top of the Pops and Girl Talk these are aimed at my target audience. Therefor if they where to distribute my magazine it my cause to much competition within the conglomerate, however it could also be good as they would already have a good population of my target audience already reading their magazines, in which they trust and then would probably read my magazine.
