Q5 - How did you attract/address your audience?

My Media Product was aimed at;
Teenage Girls; Aged: 13-18; Who either attend School /College and Have a part-time job/Pocket money.
I found that you must attract and address your target audience to ensure that you sell your media product.

I addressed my audience by using the stereotypical colours which are aimed at my target audience, these being; Pink and Lilac. I made these colours the reoccurring theme throughout my Magazine to ensure the it was consistent. This allowed me to follow my own institution of followed a set colour theme.

I addressed my audience by researching the various things they have interests in such as;
The various celebritys like;
Ke$ha
Justin Bieber
Selena Gomez
Justin Timeberlake
Rihanna
Miley Cyrus.
I did this research to ensure that my featured stories where not only of the pop genre but also popular within
my target audience.

I also addressed my audience by adding girl hearts as a reoccurring theme within my magazine, I think the hearts add to making the magazine seem more pop genre but they attract the female audience.

I also addressed my audience by looking at their social status, from this I found that they were in a low band in grade D & E this meant a low income, therefor to attract my audience I made my magazine cheap at the price of £1.99.

In order to find out if my magazine was attracting my target audience I asked 15 female students aged 13-18
to find out if my magazine was working.
Before doing this survey, I ensured that a my selection was a mixed selection. I decided to take 2 of each age and then 3 randomly chosen by my friend out of a hat so that it wasn't a biased questionnaire.

From this I found that majority of my people of study , from my chosen target audience where attracted to my product. I know that I cannot attract every single person in that target audience as people have different tastes and likes , however I found that my price was a good price and that my colour scheme and chosen artists were appealing to a majority of my people of study.

The reader profile that I have created is based on my mainstream audience built on the stereotypes of today's society. The social networking websites, fashion labels, technology labels and Celebrity Icons are all based on today's wants and needs of my chosen target audience. The younger generations where my target audience is based are very uptodate with the latest technology and social networking websites therefor the use of these aim at my audience.

I also received this feedback;
This feedback was given by a 17 year old female student; (My target audience) She has shown that my chosen colours attract the audience and also my hearts attract the audience, this means that from my research and questionnaire my findings where successful in attracting my target audience

Q4 - Who would be the audience for your media product?

Q3 - What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?

Who might distribute your media product? by Ellysia Tsim on GoAnimate

  • Along with this Animation I have written an extra section as to what kind of media institution might distribute my media product and why;
  • In terms of which media institution, it must be one which consists of music so company's such as ICP Media and BBC both deal with music therefor are good candidates to distribute my product.
  • About IPC ; IPC Media produces over an astonishing 60 recognized media brands and with print alone they reach almost two thirds of UK women and 42% of UK men. Their websites all together reach over 20 million users every month.IPC – What do they distribute? IPC distributes a wide range of magazines such as Marie Claire, TVTimes, NME, Ideal Home, Country Life, Nuts, Soaplife, Mousebreaker and Now. My magazine isn't of their usual, however my magazine could be distributed by them as it could hit a bigger audience for their institution and there wouldn't be any competition within the conglomerate.
  • BBC; The BBC Already distribute ; Top of the Pops and Girl Talk these are aimed at my target audience. Therefor if they where to distribute my magazine it my cause to much competition within the conglomerate, however it could also be good as they would already have a good population of my target audience already reading their magazines, in which they trust and then would probably read my magazine.

FINAL PRODUCT; Front Cover; Contents and Double Page Spread.

EMAIL FEEDBACK TO = S0016238@WYKE.AC.UK

After a tonne, of deciding, re-deciding, positioning, deleting, re-layering, editing , re-creating.
This is my final product!
I found that after I thought I had finished my front cover, I hadn't and I didn't really like it.
I think that with time and more skills I could have made these look a lot more professional.
However I believe that my product as a whole, follows conventions and hits my target audience.

Contents Page Second Draft

This is the second step to my Contents page build up. I have picked two main images so far to feature on my contents page. One being the cover story the other being the "Ben-j" competition plug. I conventionally have placed the name of the magazine upon the contents page, however I think i might make it smaller. I have used a blocked layout to keep my contents simple, but effective. Putting across all the information needed without looking to crowded.

Contents Page First Draft

This is my First draft of my contents page, so far and I don't really like it. I don't think it for-fills all the conventions of a contents page and I'm not sure if it is appealing to an audiences eye, therefor I think i'm going to restart and create a fresh contents page.

Process and Editing

Firstly I used power point to create a black box for my album cover,.
After doing so I transfered the box onto photoshop in which I then used the
brush tool in a low opacity to build up the effect of clouds.

Next I transfered the image back onto powerpoint to crop.

After cropping my image I placed a different coloured background
behind my picture to allow myself to see the album cover with the clouds.

After doing so I clicked on picture effects and tested the various effects
which took a while.

Once I found a effect I added a border to my image in order to
portray that it is and album.

This became my final album background.

After finding a background I then imported my image into photoshop to
finally add the album title and artist.

My Double Page Spread Drafting

This Is my double Page spread drafting process in which I cut and changed various things.

On this double page spread, this was my first attempt, I found that the left
hand side where my main image was very bare, I also found that my standfirst wasn't very
long and didn't really explain much about the article therefor I decided to edit it.

On my second draft I found that by moving the pull quote more centrally in the middle
of my article was more conventional, and I decided to expand on my standfirst. However now after removing my masthead/heading and placing it within the article, I now have no masthead/heading
and the left hand side is still quite bare.
On my third draft, I decided to add hearts to the left hand side of the page
In order to add a touch of girlyness and to fill the negative space which was there before.
I also decided to re-change the columns and instead of having three I made it to 4 and re-positioned and re-coloured the text. However I still had no masthead/heading.

On my final draft, I had finally found a masthead/heading and I felt happy with
the out come to my double page spread.

The Lead up to my double page spread /article.

When considering my article I must consider my pull quote from my front cover "All An Act".

First I must consider if I am to do a Question & Answer or If I am to do a story article.
When considering my article I found that a Question & Answer would work best for my pop genre. I found that I due to the costume used for my  front page It would work best to discuss some for of growing up and change. Almost as if "Lucy-Loo" was acting as someone she wasn't.
When writing my question and answer I considered my models character profile;

Name; Lucy-Loo
Age; 17
Occupation; Now singer
Education; Was at a public school
Siblings; Older sister
Relationship; single
Parents; Lives with Mum. Dad rarely visits.
Albums; Recent single; 'free'
Record Label; Island def jam records.
Hair colour; Brown ; Dyed pink
Eye colour; Brown

Writing a character profile allowed me to have a pre-idea of what I can write about such as;

Relationships (Love Life)
Parents (Home Life)
Occupation (Rise To Fame)
Albums (What It means to her)

My Double Page Spread Article.

Before I created my double page spread I decided to write up my article. My article must relate to my "Pull Quote" from my front cover. "All An Act".

So Lucy how does it feel to have your own light instead of the shadows of your sister?
Well, I never really wanted the light at first and when Lacy hit the stage I knew I wasn't going to be normal for much longer. I tired going back to public school and tried to be ‘Me’ but it wasn't working everyone would always question me on Lacy and I never got a minutes peace. I was always trying to be a ‘good girl’ mainly for my mum’s sake but that wasn't me.

What do you mean that wasn't you?
Well I never really was ‘good’. I like the adventure and the chaos and when I finally got to speak to Lacy on her own she explained that’s all her life was, and she hates it. She always tells me that she wished she’d have had the normal life. However me on the other hand I found that she had the life I wanted.
I always envied her and when it came to my interview with “Island def. jam records” I wasn't expecting anything but the same old boring questions about Lacy.

So what happened in this interview?
Well I was questioned on Lacy as expected but then they asked me to sing questioning me on if the ‘voice’ ran in our family. At first I was like ‘Hell no’ but they persuade me with Hot coco and a Wonka bar. After I sung there was silence and I honestly believed I had broken a window or my voice had deafened them all of some sort.

Why were they all so silent?
I wasn't sure until I was asked to step out of the room and at this point my manager simply said ‘wow.’
I questioned him and he wouldn't tell me anything until I bugged him that much, he cracked. He turned to me and said “I think they want to sign you.” By this point I was in shock and hadn’t a clue how to respond I mean could this be my big break? Would I finally live the life I have always wanted?

What did they say after they invited you back?
Well they asked me to sit down and I honestly even after the talk with my manager thought it was bad news they all had such serious faces. Then that was it I was asked to sign. I was up for it and ready to sign but as per usual we needed to ‘talk’ about it with my parents. But I was ready and I was no longer ready to keep my act up.

What do you mean “keep your act up?”
Well I wasn't really a Good girl and I finally had this opportunity to be me. Wear as some might say ‘in decedent’ clothes and look more ‘sexy’ and grow up instead of this girl in a full black outfit and a school skirt. I mean come on I’m 18 this year I need to be independent, and if this meant rebel that’s what I was going to do.

Are you trying to be like Miley Cyrus?
No, not in the slightest I’m just trying to be me. I've been questioned like this many of times but honestly I can see why. I've met Miley and we get on quiet well. She’s just trying to find her feet and be herself just like me, and I admire how far she’s come

Would you say the photos recently released of you say it all?
Well my photo-shoot today definitely shows another side to me but I know personally that some people still release the old photos of me in disgust as to how I’ve come out now.

You’ve definitely changed your image since the first photo-shoot for the front cover why?
Like I said I’m trying to be me, independent. I mean my first photo-shoot for the front cover was last year just after I got side when I hadn't found my feet. After Recording ‘Free’ I found who I am.

How I edited the snap-board upon my image. (PhotoShop)

This is how my image started.
My snap-board contained write writing in which was irrelevant to the context of my frontcover so I decided to edit it and remove the texted. The images below are the development of my image to the finish.
